I've been a serious student of the UFO phenomenon for 50+ years. I had a close-up daylight disk encounter. I was a MUFON state section head many years ago. So I am scarcely a debunker.Every now and then, I like to buy off-the-wall titles in the UFO and JFK assassination fields just for fun, with no expectations of encountering anything credible. Hence my purchase of this.I've been hearing about Eisenhower's meeting with aliens for decades, although as I recall Holloman AFB in NM was the usual setting. (In this book, Holloman was a follow-up meeting in 1955, one of at least three Ike had with the aliens.)The author doesn't actually provide anything that would rise to the level of even circumstantial evidence. Every anonymous caller to UFO-oriented radio programs is treated as credible, as another piece of the puzzle. Ditto for anonymous postings to internet forums. Documents that are regarded as bogus by every serious UFO researcher are treated as authentic. I will give the author credit for doing a fair amount of work and compiling pretty much everything relevant to Ike's supposed meeting with aliens, but it all adds up to an epistemological zero.There is an absolute obsession with Palm Springs, as though Ike and everyone else who ostensibly visited there (including other Presidents) was somehow obligated to use this community as a ruse for visiting Edwards AFB to meet with, view or learn about the aliens and the craft they generously gifted to us.When a book is recommended by Douglas Caddy and Linda Moulton Howe, and the author treats the latter goof as though she were a serious and credible researcher, you know you're in la-la land. (Caddy is a former Watergate attorney who maintains JFK was assassinated because he was about to reveal the truth about The Aliens. Linda MH is a formerly credible journalist - roughly 40 years ago - who epitomizes John Keel's warning about an obsession with UFOs; she is so far into the ozone that she seldom even rates a mention anymore among serious researchers.)Why I refer to the book as good-natured lunacy is because the author covers his bases by repeatedly admitting that most of his ostensible evidence really doesn't prove anything, many in ufology question the authenticity of his documents, and almost all of the inferences and dot-connecting are raw speculation - BUT, HEY, THIS ALL COULD HAVE HAPPENED! I THINK IT DID AND YOU CAN'T PROVE IT DIDN'T!I might have given this one more star if it were better organized. It jumps around to a degree that becomes quite confusing. A disinterested editor would have been a great help.As with many JFK conspiracy titles, this book is kind of fun as an insight into the sorts of things otherwise sane and intelligent people are capable of believing. If you can maintain any sort of real-world perspective and critical thinking skills, however, you KNOW this didn't happen. When you actually think about all the things that would've had to have happened before, during and after (long after) a series of supposed meetings between the President of the United States and a delegation of aliens in February of 1954, you KNOW this didn't happen. At least I do.
